Limits on board size in Release Board Hub

To prevent Jira Software from timing out, or to slow down Release Board Hub there are limits on how big your board can be.

A single board can load up to five projects.

Fore each project/board we load up to 50 versions

Average capacity

Release Board Hub uses the assumption that an issue can only be assigned to one person.

With that in mind, we using the following equation:

Average Capacity OTE - Original Time Estimate

Capacity for one person:

  • [[person that have assigned issue] * [working hours per day]] * [iteration length] = [person availability per iteration]

  • [[1]*[8h]] * [5d] = [available 40h]

Iteration length: the length of Version (start date - end date)

Capacity for all persons:

  • [number of persons that have assigned issues] * [persons availability per iteration] = [team availability per iteration]

  • [4 persons] * [40h] = [available 160h]

This persons consume the Original Estimation values (in hours) of all assigned issues.

  • [available 40h - original estimation 8h] = [32h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 16h] = [24h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 32h] = [8h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

This means 96 person/s-hours of work has been assigned to persons who has total 160 person/s-hours of availability collectively, and 64 person/s-hours free capacity.

  • [available 40h - original estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - original estimation 80h] = [0h free capacity, 40h over capacity]

This means 200 person/s-hours of work has been assigned to persons who has total 160 person/s-hours of availability collectively, and 40h over capacity.

  2. Blue: allocated (assigned issues)

  3. Red: over capacity

Average Capacity RTE - Remaining Time Estimate

Capacity for one person:

  • [[person that have assigned issue] * [working hours per day]] * [days left in iteration] = [person availability per iteration]

  • [[1]*[8h]] * [5d] = [available 40h]

Days left in iteration: days left in Version (today - end date)

Capacity for all persons:

  • [number of persons that have assigned issues] * [persons availability per iteration] = [team availability per iteration]

  • [4 persons] * [40h] = [available 160h]

This persons consume the Remaining Estimation values (in hours) of all assigned issues.

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 8h] = [32h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 16h] = [24h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 32h] = [8h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

This means 96 person/s-hours of work has been assigned to persons who has total 160 person/s-hours of availability collectively, and 64 person/s-hours free capacity.

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 40h] = [0h free capacity]

  • [available 40h - remaining estimation 80h] = [0h free capacity, 40h over capacity]

This means 200 person/s-hours of work has been assigned to persons who has total 160 person/s-hours of availability collectively, and 40h over capacity.
